Working German Shepherd & Dogsport Clubs of Australasia inc (WGSDCA) formerly the Australian United Sportdog Clubs Inc was formed as a National Council for Dogsport in December 1990. This organisation is dedicated to its members and Dogsport and consists of associations catering for the training and trialling of dogs. WGSDCA is administered along similar lines to some of our National Breed Councils, eg. German Shepherd National Council, National Rottweiler Council and National Dobermann Council, and has a system of records for performance etc. styled on that of the United Sportdog Clubs of America.
Today in Australia, IPO (International Prüfungs Ordnung) is a fast growing competitive dog sport. IPO gives us the ability to test our dogs to determine if the temperament is correct and to also view their working ability. IPO is designed for the dogs with working ability. IPO training and trialling involves three phases Tracking, Obedience, Character Assessment.
WGSDCA is a National Organisation, whose membership is dedicated to the Sport of IPO or Dogsport through promotion of the dog as a working animal.
WGSDCA promotes responsible dog ownership through the principles of training and socialising. All WGSDCA dogs must perform a BH (Belgelithund ) Traffic Sure Companion before further advancement in the Sport. This ensures that our dogs are safe and trustworthy in society. It also teaches the novice, how to handle their dog in all situations at all times.
WGSDCA has affiliated clubs across Australia and New Zealand and maintains contacts all over the world for the information of members together and amongst other services.
